Selling
Sell gift cards online and in store
Customers can buy gift cards online or in person, digital or physical. Drag-and-drop theme blocks capture the recipient's details for a digital card, and Shopify POS sells digital cards at the counter or activates physical card stock held in store.
Redeeming
Redeem in checkout, in the cart or at the till
Customers redeem their cards in the Shopify checkout, from your cart page, or in store through Shopify POS. Cardigan integrates natively into Shopify, so redemption is secure and seamless while the balance continues to live with your provider.
Balances
Self-serve balance checks
Customers look up what's left on a card themselves through the balance checker block in your theme, and your team can check any card from the Shopify admin.
Automation

Shopify Flow triggers and actions let you build gift card events into your workflows, and scheduled exports deliver a daily feed of gift card activity to your data warehouse.

Do I need Shopify Plus?
Checkout redemption requires Shopify Plus. Gift card sales, balance checking, cart redemption and POS redemption work on any Shopify plan.
What happens to our existing gift card balances?
Nothing changes. Cardigan connects to your existing provider, so all balances and transaction history stay where they are. No migration needed.
Does Cardigan work with Shopify POS?
Yes. Staff can sell digital cards, activate physical card stock and redeem cards in Shopify POS. Cards activated in store are immediately redeemable online, and vice versa.
How long does implementation take?
Most merchants are live within a few days. Custom or headless implementations may take longer depending on complexity.
How do refunds and partial redemptions work?
Partial redemptions work natively. Refund behaviour is configurable per provider: refund to the original card, issue a new card, or take no action.
How does Cardigan integrate with Givex and Shift4?
Cardigan connects directly to the Givex (now Shift4) API. Enter your Givex credentials in the app, and your customers can purchase, redeem and check balances on gift cards issued through Givex, all within Shopify.
Do you support SVS, Vii, Digital Glue and Magenta?
Yes. Cardigan has built-in integrations for SVS, Vii, Digital Glue and Magenta alongside Givex. Each supports the full gift card lifecycle: sales, redemption and balance checks.
What if our provider isn't listed?
We build custom provider integrations. If your provider has an API, we can connect it. Book a demo and we'll scope it out with you.
